Freelance Comic Artists Wanted

Avatar Press is a leading independent company which publishes a wide variety of comic books -- highly regarded creator-owned titles such as Alan Moore's The Courtyard, Warren Ellis' Scars, and Garth Ennis and John McCrea's Dicks; licensed comics such as Frank Miller's Robocop and Stargate SG1, company-owned properties such as Pandora and The Ravening, and a number of other current and upcoming titles.

Avatar is privileged to work with some of the most talented creators in comics, and the company is currently seeking out additional creators - both new and established - in a number of categories.

They are always looking for talented freelance artists, and often have a range of work in a wide variety of subjects and genres available. If you have a web page or online gallery of your work available, sending Avatar Press editor-in-chief William Christensen a link to that is generally a good place to start.

Emailing a few graphics is also okay, as long as the file size is not too large to start with. The continued search for artists to join the talented group of creators they work with for a number of upcoming projects is an important priority at Avatar.

Science Fiction and Horror Illustrations Wanted
Apex Publications is a limited liability corporation based out of Lexington, KY, United States, owned and operated by Jason B. Sizemore. In 2005, they began publishing the critically acclaimed Apex Science Fiction and Horror Digest.

Artist Submission Guidelines:

1. If you have an online portfolio, simply send a note and a link to your portfolio to their Art Director, Deb Taber. For those without online portfolios, send 4-6 samples in .jpg format.

2. They prefer to work with artists who are able to do both cover and interior illustrations, so send black & white samples that are appropriate for interiors as well as full color. Remember, they use multiple interior illustrations per issue, but only four covers per year.

3. Artists receive $20 for interior illustrations plus one contributor copy. Cover art pays $100 plus two contributor copies.

4. Note from the Art Director, "For right now, I’m asking for a moratorium on comic/graphic novel style artwork. Not that we don’t love it–we do–we just already have a list of regular contributors who do that kind of work, and I’d like to see something different".
